Principal’s Message

May 2019

Dear Seiberling Parents,

Akron Public Schools is having a wonderful summer reading program that we would like to invite your child to be a part of that will help strengthen reading skills and prevent any summer learning loss. This reading program encourages your child to read independently throughout the summer, and there will be great incentives from the school that he/she could earn based on the number of books read.

Students will be prompted to go to the Ready, Set, Read! Google Site when their Chromebook opens or visit the APS school site  Every two weeks students are encouraged to complete a reading challenge. Your child may complete the challenges as many times as he/she would like. The more challenges they complete, the more points they will earn.

While we encourage you and your child to make use of the many resources at the nearest Akron-Summit County Public Library, we also want you to utilize books using our online ebooks and audiobooks through OverDrive.

All our K-12 students have been trained by their school librarian and should know how to access the books available on OverDrive. When your child completes a challenge, he/she will complete a simple Google form that is posted on the challenge card. By completing the challenge(s), your child will have the opportunity to redeem prizes upon returning to school in the fall.

Thank you in advance for collaborating with us to help your child improve his/her reading. Having your child read an hour a day during the summer has the potential to improve his/her performance in reading. With your support, we know this program will be a success. If you have any questions pertaining to the reading program, please contact me at 330.761.7956.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful summer!

Educationally yours,

Mrs. Llewellyn
